Our multiple daily sailings can accommodate up to 68 passengers (56 seated), with each crossing taking around 30 minutes.

Private groups of 10 or more can enjoy special requests such as onboard catering or extended stays for a truly personalised adventure. With toilet facilities at both the marina and on the island, plus tea, coffee, and snacks available, your comfort is assured. A visit to Scattery Island is more than just a day out. It offers a living classroom aligned with key Irish curriculum objectives.

Living Heritage & History – Walk in the footsteps of St. Senan, island scholars, and Shannon Mariners. Explore ruins like the O’Cahan tower house, coastal battery, and deserted village — all story-rich sites that illustrate how landscapes and communities change over time.

Biodiversity & Sustainability – Fieldwork activities can bring the curriculum to life: Students observe interactions in real time and discuss conservation challenges like habitat loss and climate impact by viewing mudflat ecosystems, coastal seals and dolphins, seabirds, wildflowers and saltmarsh biology.

School Tours include engaging educational materials for both Primary and Secondary School Tours and a guided walking tour that brings the island’s monastic and Viking heritage to life.

  • Was on my to-do list for a long time. It’s very interesting both as a nature reserve and it’s association with Saint Senán. The OPW guide services are outstanding. Shout out to Simon our guide for the morning. His knowledge of social history in addition to archaeology and history was encyclopedic!   • We took the Scattery Island Tour boat, very fast and pleasant trip over. We were met by a very informative tour guide who brought us to the key monastic sites. We then took the 15 minute walk to the lighthouse and artillery battery. We then had a picnic and the children were then invited to paint some sea stones which they enjoyed. It is a beautiful, scenic, unspoilt island. A little gem.

  • What a fantastic trip to Scattery Island located on the mouth of the Shannon Estuary today. The island is uninhabited since 1978. For anyone looking for a day trip that the whole family will enjoy this is definitely worth booking. From the staff at the Marina, the skipper the OPW tour guide it’s an absolute fantastic trip.  On our return trip the skipper stopped so we could take pictures of the dolphins who were swimming all around the boat. Thanks to Scattery Island Tours for a fantastic day.
